2009 PUEBLO DEL SOL TANNAT description

Pueblo del Sol winery, located in the Juanico region of Uruguay, is blessed with warm days and cool nights. The vineyards are also influenced by the cool Atlantic breezes that blow nightly from the nearby River Plata estuary. This estate grown and bottled wine is a terrific value. This wine is dark purple in color, medium to full bodied, juicy, concentrated and supple with a delightful jammy flavor of dark red berry fruits with a hint of fig, and spices with sweet tannins and a medium finish. If you like fruity Malbec or Rhone reds you will undoubtedly enjoy this wine as well. Serve with red meats, pasta, casserole, barbecue and stews. Tannat vines were introduced to Uruguay by Basque settlers in the 1870s, from The Madiran AOC in France, where it is the dominant varietal. French Tannat is typically big and tannic and benefits from blending. Tannat from Uruguay is marked by fine, ripe tannins, elegant fruit and less acidity.
“Intense, nearly opaque port-like ruby-black; very dark, sweetish plummy aromas; mouth shows surprisingly bright. High-toned if simple fruit with some loamy notes; smoothish texture.” Stephen Meuse, The Boston Globe.
