History

Arborway Imports, Inc, is a Burlington, MA  based wine import and craft beer company.  Founded over two decades ago, Arborway Imports covers all of Massachusetts, including the islands.   The company is family owned and operated by Gregg Berman, who represents the fourth generation.

Arborway Imports was created by Gregg’s father, Joel Berman in 1989.  By studying, tasting extensively, traveling to vineyards and establishing contacts with both Italian and French growers/winemakers, Joel increased his knowledge and enhanced his reputation both here and abroad.  During the 1980’s Joel would accompany wholesaler friends and associates on wine buying trips to Europe.  They would taste in cellars anywhere from the south of France to Burgundy to the Tuscan hills, and when Joel was enamored with a particular wine he would have it brought into the U.S. “cleared” so he could then offer the product at his own retail shop.  The trips became so frequent, and the products so abundant, Joel decided to cut out the middle-men and began Arborway Imports.  Arborway now has a list of clientele that includes many of the best retail establishments and finest restaurants in Massachusetts, from Nantucket to the North Shore and from Boston to the Berkshires.  Over these two plus decades, Arborway has established a reputation for offering carefully sourced, premium wines at extremely competitive prices.

Equal to Joel’s love and passion for wine, his son Gregg reflects the same energy and enthusiasm for craft beer.  After years of being a craft beer enthusiast, Gregg ventured into the business for himself.  At the end of 2009, Gregg went to work creating Clown Shoes Beer, brewed locally in Ipswich, Ma at Mercury Brewing.  With only a single batch of Hoppy Feet Black IPA brewed, Gregg went door to door in downtown Boston presenting his own beer to the finer craft beer establishments.  The response by the trade and the consumers surpassed all expectations.  The market demanded more beer and so more beer was brewed.  The loyal following that the beer received enabled Clown Shoes to expand to 8 year round styles and 2 seasonals,  now found in a dozen states across the country.  The success of Clown Shoes has spawned a greater understanding of the craft beer movement for Arborway and led to the addition of several new brands.

The increased demand for both Arborway’s artisanal wines and craft beers has enabled the company to invest in the support of its portfolio. It is our belief that any company is only as good as the people that comprise it.  With this philosophy in mind, Arborway has invested heavily in its human resources, staffing highly energetic and knowledgeable sales representatives as well as a dedicated operational staff to properly service the state.  Additionally, this past summer of 2011, Arborway consolidated its general operation by moving into a new 10,500 sq ft temperature controlled facility in Burlington, Ma, providing an even greater level of efficiency and accuracy for our customers.

With a new facility, streamlined operation, and dedicated staff, Arborway’s portfolio continues to flourish, attracting many new quality products.
